The Nightmare

A bus carrying a number of people including Emma Stroud has been blown up by a bomb planted in her luggage by her son, Gilbert. Robin, investigating the case, is convinced that Gilbert is guilty. As he uncovers vital evidence he is knocked unconscious by the boy and imprisoned and threatened with a terrible death. By use of a stratagem he throws Gilbert into the same fate the insane youth had planned for Robin.

Man in the Shadows

Robin goes to Paris to try to find two highly-insured emeralds belonging to Caroline Agoura, which ostensibly went overboard with her late husband, Paul. By working with Tou Tou, a clumsy Parisian second-story man, Robin learns that Agoura is not dead, but is a vague but notorious smuggler who uses the emeralds as collateral for his deals. Agoura learns of Scott's interest and attempts to have him killed by using his young protegee, Mirelle, and her ex-lover, Tanguy, to do his dirty work. Robin feigns death, and he and Tou Tou pull a dupe that almost gets Robin killed.

The Bard Disappears

A highly insured Shakespeare First Folio is stolen from London University, and Robin Scott arrives to investigate. First Robin gets a list of possible buyers of the folio, and eliminates all but one, an unscrupulous collector named Haldane. Then from the university librarian, Wilkins, Robin learns that a shady character named Begstone must be the man behind the theft. To get the suspected buyer and seller together where he can observe them, Robin tricks Begstone and Haldane into a meeting. It is apparent that there was a deal between the two men, but now Haldane suspects Begstone of holding out on him. By pretending that he has the folio, Robin lures Haldane into breaking into his hotel room. During his grilling of Haldane, Robin suddenly realizes that only one man could possibly have the missing folio--Wilkins, the librarian. But when Robin gets to Wilkins, the man has been beaten up. He confesses that he did steal the folio, but now Begstone has it. In an exciting climax Robin crashes in on Begstone and Haldane, cleans up, and at last recovers the missing folio.

Robin Scott is hired to recover a fabulous ruby stolen in Burma by a fabled robber baron, Kang. With the help of Dau, friend of anyone with money, Robin contrives to be captured by Kang who gives Robin only one slim chance to live--a to man fight to the death. Robin prevails, then discovers the Chieftan does not have the ruby. Kang, angered at whoever made him scapegoat for both the ruby's theft and the murder of a fruit vendor, will let Robin go free only when Robin promises to tell him the name of the culprit. With Dau's help, Robin finds his quarry. Nor does Robin forget his promise to the robber Chieftan.

The Payoff

Ending a date with Phyllis one night, Robin crosses a parking lot and reaches what he thinks is his sports car. A sedan across the lot comes forward and a sniper takes a shot at him. Robin seems doomed, but at the last moment, the sniper cries, "It isn't him!" and the sedan speeds away. The sports car--an exact duplicate of Robin's - turns out to belong to a fading young rock-and-roll singer names Teddy Thomas. Robin realizes the would-be killer was out to get Thomas. This is pretty well confirmed the following day when Robin learns that Thomas has a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar life insurance policy, payable between his manager and fiancee. When Robin tries to see Thomas at a night club to explain about the shooting, he is knocked out. Then Thomas is killed - in such a way that it legally seems accidental. The insurance company is going to be forced to pay off double indemnity, until Robin - with the magnificent and heroic aid of Phyllis - plots the weirdest plan of his career to trap the murderers.

Robin Scott is assigned to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Thelma Henderson, insured for $350,000 by her husband, Walter, an ex-confidence man. With the help of a neighbor, Robin uncovers enough evidence to convict Walter of murder--the corpse is found. Robin goes on a vacation with Phyllis on the Island of Jamaica and sees Thelma Henderson alive. Robin visits her brother, Rex Atwood, and suggests that they have perpetrated a fantastic insurance fraud. Rex denies it--and then frames Robin so that the investigator is deported. However, a false report of Walter's execution brings Thelma out of hiding and she and Rex are arrested.

This man Alex Bertani, is a member of a confidence racket gang headed by syndicate hoods Ernie Boros and Roy Eland who try to frighten Robin off by a beating and attempted murder. Robin tracks them down, rescues Phyllis who has fallen into their hands and he breaks up the gang.

The only copy of the manuscript of a new novel by America's young literary lion, Addison Hanks, is stolen by two tribesmen in Mozambique, Africa. Robin goes to find it. Hanks looks suspicious because he acts suspiciously; Molly Sullivan, Hanks' agent, warns Robin to stay away. Robin learns facts that lead him to believe that Hanks had it stolen. He is almost killed in a barroom brawl with Hanks. Then he realizes Harned is involved. He confronts, Harned, the writer and agent in a scene that almost gets him killed--but leads him to the manuscript.

The Strad

Drago, manager for world famous violin virtuoso, Pietro Ascoli, arranges to have the violinist's highly insured Stradivarius stolen. Drago plans to have Ascoli pay a ransom for the return of the violin, but when Ascoli tries to use the insurance money to buy the instrument from the thieves, Robin prevents him, and in doing so is attacked and captured by the thieves. With the help of Phyllis, Robin gets away, only to find that in his absence Drago has paid over a huge sum to the thieves and been given a worthless copy of the valuable Stradivarius. Being now suspicious of the tricky manager, Robin and Phyllis plant a trap into which Drago walks, revealing the whereabouts of the manager's accomplices, the stolen violin, and the ransom money. After a fast-moving skirmish with the thieves, Robin recovers both the violin and the money.

Key Man

As an expert in insurance murders, Robin is propositioned by a mysterious, but distinguished, gentleman named Graves to kill James Clayton. The job requires an expert because Clayton has turned his country estate into an impenetrable fortress. Clayton turns out to be Mr. Graves himself. Clayton In hopes of determining which of the dead man's three partners is the guilty one, Robin breaks into the company offices and from the tax returns discovers Fallberg is the only one in desperate financial trouble. Robin confronts Fallberg with this evidence only to be stunned by a perfect alibi. Robin suggests it was Lily and arouses Fallberg's suspicions. In a rage over her unfaithfulness, Fallberg kills his wife so that neither collect on the insurance policy.

The Tunnel

When Johnny Flood, insurance investigator, overhears Burt Hobson and Garth Briggs planning the biggest bank hit in history. They catch Johnny and try to kill him. Johnny escapes, but is so badly wounded he can tell Robin Scott only a few facts about the vault job before he dies. Laurie Tibbs, Johnny's fiancee, holds Robin responsible for Johnny's death. She resolves to kill Robin--as do Hobson and Briggs, who learn Johnny talked to Robin before Johnny died. Robin barely escapes Laurie's bullet, and induces Laurie to aid him in the search for the men who killed Johnny. Laurie very nearly pays for her cooperation with her life. And Robin guesses wrong about the vault job. Ironically, it's Robin's wrong guess that gives him the right answer and leads him to the crooks just in time.

Spell of Danger

Heavily insured Mrs. Warren dies in the desert. Robin goes to Phoenix to investigate. The beneficiary is a beautiful hypnotherapist named Marcia DeWitt, who has a male nurse named Ellis Brandon. Robin learns Miss DeWitt is illegitimate. He sends Phyllis to try out her therapy, and thereby learns she has a racket. This leads to suspicion, which is driven home when Brandon tries to kill him in the desert. Robin tries to get evidence through Marcia's ex-husband, Henry Milo, but Milo gets killed en route. So Robin uses Brandon's possessive jealousy and Marcia's own therapy technique to trap them into tape recorder evidence.

Brink of Disaster

Steve Whelan threatens to commit suicide over his wife's infidelity, but Eddie Nelson, Linda Whelan's boyfriend helps him over the cliff with a gentle shove. Robin is called in while the insurance company thinks Steve is still on the cliff. Robin goes there only to find nothing except a mysterious assailant who shoots at him. Deducting that Whelan is still alive, Robin gets on the trail of the man and follows him north. When the trail disappears, Robin reverses his thinking and decides that Whelan was actually murdered by Eddie whose plan is to keep Whelan "alive" for three days to take advantage of the two year cancellation clause in Whelan's policy. Robin tricks Linda into a seeming love affair to draw Eddie out of hiding and thus solve the plot.

Baubles and Bullets

Yberra, a notorious international jewel thief, and his gang show up in New York at the same time a famous jewelry shop is to open with a public display of some of the world's richest gems. Robin Scott thinks it may be merely an interesting coincidence--until an investigator is killed practically at his feet. Robin then takes on the job of protecting the insured gems. The display ends without mishap, and all dangers seem ended. But when a gunman trails him and Phyllis through Central Park and attempts to kill him, Robin is certain that Yberra still plans to steal the fabulous gems. Robin makes plans of his own, and in a surprising and thrilling climax he captures the entire gang.

The Genuine Fake

Emile Masters, a superbly talented jeweler, leaves prison after seven years, vowing to accomplished two things: murder Robin Scott, the man responsible for his imprisonment, and swindle the Peerless Insurance Co. out of a quarter of a million dollars. When the murder attempts fail, Masters involves Robin in the insurance swindle in the hopes of luring him to his death. Robin tumbles to the scheme but not to the fact that Masters is protecting his plan by holding Phyllis hostage. Robin forces one of the crooks to reveal Phyllis' hiding place, then races against the clock to rescue her.

Policy of Murder

Robin is persuaded by an English insurance company friend to investigate a small oil company on the Dutch-owned island of Curacao, where an unusually high number of fatal accidents have occurred among newly-hired employees. The Fraud seems obvious - the new employees must take out accident policies on which the company pays the first premiums, thus becoming the beneficiary for the first six months. But there is no way this fraud can be proved. Robin journeys to Curacao, believing one member of the oil crew, who has been planted by the insurance company, will be his contact. Before Robin can contact him, the man is apprehended and admits that an unknown investigator will be coming with the next group of employees. This is the atmosphere in which Robin finds himself - without help and marked for the next "accidental" death. Fortunately, Robin dreams up a plan to not only save himself, but to force the necessary proof of guilt from the murderers.

The Dead Ringer

While bird-watching with Phyllis, Robin sees a couple throw away some old clothes and then hit a man over the head and push him into their car. Robin tries to follow them but loses their trail. Later, in searching for the discarded clothing, he is shot at. This angers him enough to make him insist on getting to the bottom of the mystery. His investigations lead him to uncover a gang which has been defrauding Insurance Companies by substituting the bodies of friendless people for insured risks, thus enabling them to collect from various companies on many policies. Robin catches up with the gang in time to prevent their killing a girl who was slated to be used as their next victim - the supposed "wife" of one of them.

The Deadly Impersonation

Robin Scott's apartment is burglarized and bugged by a clever gang of swindlers, headed by Fred Caine, an unscrupulous private eye, and Jack Hayes, who looks and talks like Robin. Caine and his confederates accomplish an ingenious $200,000 swindle. Then to prevent any possible exposure, they kidnap Robin and take over his apartment. Although Robin is left to die in his car trunk, he manages to survive and is rescued. He sets a trap for the gang. They fall for his bait--a half-million dollars worth of jewels--and he traps them. Caine and another swindler, Oscar Bradley, meet accidental death in the process.

Amsterdam Lapidary

In Amsterdam to recover the huge Granada diamond stolen from jeweler, Wilhelm Joost, Robin Scott learns that safe expert had recently installed a new lock on Joost's safe before he died on the Amsterdam-to-Paris train. In Paris, Robin finds that Dupre's pretty widow is friendly with Rosaire, a known criminal, and Schroeder, a railroad detective who had been traveling with Dupre when he died. After Rosaire tries and fails to first bribe then kill him, Robin realizes that the thieves cannot sell the stolen diamond until it is re-cut. He seeks out and finds Van Hessen, a lapidary who is going to re-cut the gem because of threats to his family. Through a ruse Robin lures the thieves and the diamond into the Van Hessen home where, after the diamond has seemingly been smashed to bits, Robin apprehends the criminals and recovers the genuine Granada diamond.

In Hong Kong, Robin must expose a captain who reported a tin shipment lost to collect on the insurance. To gain the crook's confidence he pretend to be a kidnapper and Phyllis his victim.

The China Passage

Capt. Thane of the tramp freighter Natuna Star has a grudge against insurance companies. He and his crew steal a hundred thousand dollar cargo of tin ingots en route from Singapore to Hong Kong, then claim the ingots were jettisoned to save the ship in a storm. Robin Scott comes to Hong Kong to prove the suspected barratry, enlisting skin diver Danny Wayne's help. Next, he worms his way into the confidence of Thane, first mate Vernon and Sparky Tanjong, and a half-caste Malay radio operator. Then Robin stages a fake kidnapping of Phyllis Collier who is also in Hong Kong. He bribes passage on the Natuna Star hoping this will lead him to the island where the tin is hidden. Thane and his crew double-cross Robin to get the supposed ransom for themselves. After a deadly fight on the island, Robin bests the heavies and recovers the ingots, only to learn that his fee will be in Hong Kong dollars, worth less than 25 cents.

The Big Baffle

Baffle, a valuable race owned by a Texas millionaire, falls in a California stakes race. Both the horse and jockey are killed. Investigating for the insurance company which covered the horse, Robin learns that the eastern bookies and the Chicago lay-off houses took a terrific beating on the race. This leads Robin to the conclusion that Baffle was unsound when he entered the race, and that the race was rigged by Baffle's trainer working with the track veterinarian and the crooked jockey who rode the second choice. In proving his case, Robin learns that the trainer was innocent and in the final showdown is able to hang the crime on the actual guilty party, Baffle's owner.

The Patient Died

Following a serious operation, wealthy Justin McDermott is murdered in the hospital by someone who injects a hemorrhage-inducing drug into his transfusion tube. McDermott's nephew, destitute playboy Kenny Calvin, sues the operating surgeon for malpractice, which brings Robin Scott into the case. His investigation of Calvin leads Robin to suspect murder instead of malpractice, and when someone attempts to kill him, Robin is certain he's on the right track. Circumstances begin to indicate that someone may be framing Calvin. Robin carefully points out to all involved that if convicted of murder, Calvin will not collect his half of the large estate left by McDermott. This maneuvers the real criminals into the open and Robin apprehends them, saving both Calvin and the surgeon from false charges.

Design for Death

A privately owned luxury craft is mysteriously exploded at sea and its wealthy owner, C.J. Hargrove is killed in the blast. Robin Scott accepts an Insurance Company assignment to investigate the circumstances surrounding the costly accident. Robin extracts his first lead when by managing an unorthodox meeting with Lydia Hargrove, daughter of the deceased, her fiance, Al Gilman, and her "companion," Amy Wilde. This happens when Al Gilman makes a remark to Robin involving the name "Harmon." Through continued investigation, Robin manages to locate Harmon and subsequently uncovers information about him, Gilman, and Amy that could eventually lead to their detection as the people directly responsible for the catastrophe. Formulating a quick counter attack - Al, Harmon, and Amy are very nearly successful in destroying both Robin and Lydia Hargrove. However, because he senses truth in what could be taken to be "insane ramblings" from Lydia Hargrove, Robin devises an out which nets Al Gilman and Amy, and costs Harmon his life.

Wheel of Fortune

Three partners in Rupert Courtney Associates join in a macabre venture to collect a large insurance tontine set up by the men years before. They decide to gamble two of the their three lives via suicide, allowing the lucky survivor to realize money the "survivor take all" policy. Courtney, who came up with the scheme, intends to "help" the odds. Robin Scott comes into the thing through the firms secretary, Delisa Monetti, an Italian girl whom Robin had met in Rome on a previous case. His investigation is one step behind the shrewd machinations of the killer and one man dies before Robin forces the situation to the point where Courtney kills himself - becoming the only real suicide. Harry Winslow, whose thwarted suicide attempt gave birth to the idea in the first place, ironically ends up with all the money.

A Matter of Life

Robin Scott must recover a hijacked load of Gamma Globulin - perishable serum used in treatment of Hepatitis. An epidemic rages and the drugs are needed; plus they have been insured for a large amount. He goes to Manila with no clues and tricks the thieves into coming to him. He winds up a prisoner of oddball Mortar McCoy - an American deserter who runs a band of brigands. Scott, though a captive, directs the activity in such fashion as to be in a position to buy back the drugs. He uses valueless Invasion Currency to buy the drugs and gets out just ahead of death.

When a fire breaks out on a Javanese coffee plantation just before harvest time, and allegedly destroys the entire crop, Robin Scott is assigned by the insuring company to check into it for possible fraud. While so doing, he gets himself embroiled in a weird triangle, a murder and at one point is even the main murder suspect himself.

Falling Star

When Eurasian movie actress Domenique Chan is nearly killed, the company that insured her picture calls in Robin Scott. He stuns Domenique, her producer-director-writer husband Larry Galloway, British actor Allen Hendricks, and karate expert Agato Nakamura by flatly stating his suspicion that an insurance fraud is in the making. Robin's suspicions are confirmed when he's trapped in a projection theater where an unseen gunman tries to kill him. Then when Robin's waiting to meet Domenique who has promised to tell him who is behind the attempted fraud and killings, she turns up dead of an apparent suicide. Robin's investigation leads him into a deserted movie studio late at night where, after a desperate fight for his life against the criminals involved, he obtains proof that Domenique was murdered as part of an insurance fraud.

Man on the Run

A CPA is bailed out of jail on a murder rap to the tune of $200,000. The insurance company discovers that to get a reduction of sentence to a bondable charge, the man, Charlie Quentin, fingered a string of lay-off books across the country, which belong to the crime cartel called the "Syndicate." Fearing that Charlie will never live to make the insured court appearance, the company hires Robin Scott to keep Quintin alive and to deliver him on the trial date, thus exonerating the bond. Robin goes to Quintin's mother, Carmen, at her place of business, and runs into Syndicate rep, Vic Schultey with one of his boys. After a tussle, Robin gains the assistance of Carmen and her daughter Ruth, who direct him to Charlie, in California. As Robin is attempting to dissuade the gentle Charlie to give up his idea of finding the man who framed him, two hoods arrive and take them all to the Syndicate boss, Martin Turk. Turk is a handsome psychopath, and it looks bad for the home team until Robin takes advantage of circumstances to free himself and Quentin. Ruth, however, remains behind and Robin returns for her. Vic Schultey arrives and Robin puts him against Turk by proving that Turk killed the man Quentin stands accused of murdering. In the action that follows, Robin gets the girl away and returns Charlie Quentin along with proof that the man is innocent.

The Fabulous Flopper

Robin is hired by the Insurance Alliance to investigate an insurance fraud ring which has specialized in false personal injury cases and netted millions over the years. Robin goes undercover, posing as a "flopper" (a man who fakes personal injuries), and he is finally hired by Milt Danzig who is in charge of the local portion of the illegal organization. Robin is soon caught, however, trying to steal important records. Instead of quitting his assignment, however, Robin puts himself in even greater jeopardy by attempting to blackmail the higher-ups in the ring. The maneuver pays off, however, when Robin, at risk of his life, is able to get evidence not only against Danzig and his associates, but on the national boss of the organization as well.

Missing Money

Robin Scott, hired by Inter-Continental Insurance to locate a two-hundred thousand dollar payroll, discovers that one of the Robbery Gang, Al Martin, is about to be paroled from prison. Martin, the only who man who survived the crime, must be forced to lead Robin to the loot. Through his own methods of investigation, Robin learns that Martin's wife and Mike Durand, whose brother was killed in the robbery, are planning to double-cross the ex-con shortly after Martin's release from the penitentiary. Robin starts the wheels of a ransom plot rolling only to find himself suddenly put out of commission. He works out of a tight squeeze to find that time and hate have corroded not only the people involved - but the money as well.

La Virgin De Macarena

Pepe Montillo is a Spanish matador who has a superstitious belief that his prayers to his particular holy image -- La Virgen De Macarena-- is what keeps him from death on the horns of the bull. This image wears robes decorated with precious gems and has a string of valuable pearls around its neck. When it is stolen, Pepe refuses to fight any more until it is returned. To hid his superstitious fear he lets it be known that he is sick. Robin is retained to recover the image and its jewelry by the insurance company which covered it for five million pesetas. He finds that there are reasons other than money why the Virgin might have been stolen. Among them a desire to keep Pepe from returning to the ring. In the end he pins the theft to Pepe's cousin, Carlos, a rich playboy, who motive was to recoup his losses at the gambling tables.

The Guilty Victim

Robin is called in to investigate a murder attempt on the life of Charley O'Brien, a young jazz pianist at the Angry Shark - a San Francisco night club. Robin intercepts a second attempt on young Charley's life. Beneficiary of Charley's life insurance policy is his wealthy father, Joseph O'Brien, who is being menaced by syndicate leader Johnny Lucas who suspects him of selling them out to a crime investigating committee. But Robin learns that Charley is the guilty party. He saves the life of the father by revealing the son's guilt--then is able to save the son's life.

Samurai Maiden

Robin Scott, in Tokyo between planes, is urged to take on a local insurance job: the recovery of two stolen samurai swords of great historical significance. Robin turns down the job until Masako Takata, a samurai maiden, persuades him to take it. The honor of Masako's father is involved. If those Ronin swords are not returned to Prince Kanno in three days, Takata and Masako, father and daughter, must fulfill the code of the samurai and take their own lives by hara-kiri. It almost costs Robin his life to learn that Kanji Saiki and his father stole the swords deliberately to dishonor Takata, knowing that this would bring death to Takata, removing business competition, clearing the way for huge Saiki profit. Robin enters the Saiki house and recovers the stolen swords after fighting Kanji for the samurai honor of Masako. But when Robin tries to deliver the swords to Prince Kanno, clearing Masako and her father of all dishonor, Mr. Saiki influences the Prince against Robin. Robin finally proves to the Prince, with Masako's help, the infamy of the Saikis.

Dangerous Ride

Robin is after a ring of car thieves who are stealing and delivering cars into Mexico on a huge scale. Using a specially rigged car he is able to make contact with a lower echelon member of the ring and go with him to a delivery point just below the border. There he learns that the headquarters of the ring is in Mexico City. Proceeding to the Mexican Capital, he places an ad in the papers announcing his willingness to purchase a fleet of cars at a low price. Approached by Wire Jameson and Georgie Largo, a couple of deported American gangsters, he poses as a member of the underworld himself. His first attempt to trace the location of the cars, however, fails and he is almost killed in a gun fight with Jameson. Nevertheless, the Largo is impressed with the way Robin handles himself and agrees to go through with the purchase deal. Just as Robin is about to complete his mission it is discovered that there is a something wrong with his cover identity and he is forced to fight for his life before he can call in the police.
