With pomp and circumstance, King Oscar II will soon inaugurate the Stockholm Exhibition in 1897. But dark clouds are looming - a financial disaster of gigantic proportions threatens Sweden's entire economy. The pride of the nation, the inventor and industrialist Gustaf de Laval, stands on the precipice of ruin. If he goes under, the country's most successful company will be dragged down into the abyss. The honor of the country must be saved.

Carl von Linné who gave us the keys to the kingdoms of plants, stones and birds and Christopher Polhem called "The Father of Swedish Mechanics" which together with Linné founded the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
