Summary Rebecca Dreyer is a simple woman from a small town in the Karoo. She dreams of leaving the small town and her overshadowing mother, to start a professional singing career. One afternoon she decides to go to Johannesburg to try her luck. Being a small-town girl, she struggles to find an agent; rejected, she returns to her mother. Her boss at a small shop tells her of a singing competition hosted by HUISGENOOT Magazine and convinces her to enter. Rebecca surprises everyone and finds an agent; unfortunately, he's a nasty man and gives her a hard time, and she must become someone she isn't to fit the ideal image of a singer.
