Summer in the Black Forest

Summary The Black Forest is arguably one of the best know regions of Germany, and conjures up thoughts of legends, fairy tales, dark woodlands and - well, gateaux. But how close is that to the truth? Liu Batchelor is on a trip to find out. Staring in the south, close to the idyllic Lake Titisee, Liu is on a mission to discover as many different tourist options as she can in this diverse region. Of course there are the well-known traditions, such as learning how to make the perfect Black Forest Gateaux, and taking a dip in the therapeutic spa waters, but also many more unusual treats. Along the way Liu drops in an outdoor pop concert, goes mountain biking on a championship forest course, and even has a wine tasting in a cellar where they used to hold witch trials. Her journey ends at the northern edge of the Black Forest, standing on the Royal Palace balcony in the city of Karlsruhe. Oh, and if you've ever wondered how they get the cuckoo noise into a cuckoo clock - she'll show you that too. View more details
