Van Veeteren's only unsolved case comes back to haunt him when the daughter of a murdered private detective comes to see him. A brutal wife killer, who went into hiding years before, has resurfaced under an assumed name; or so it seems, and Van Veeteren has personal reasons for wanting him caught.

A member of "Sjöbjörnarna" (a group of executives), asks the newspaper editor Dick Mattson to find Brita Ljungdahl, the former wife of another of the members. The first clue he tries is to ask a certain Maria Vaern, who knows Brita. However, he discovers that she is dead by suicide and when he soon finds Brita, he starts wondering if Maria really did commit suicide or if she was murdered. When a private detective, who was contacted by Maria, contacts him but is later murdered, he starts looking deeper into the affairs of "Sjöbjörnarna". He discovers that the accident last summer, in which one memeber of the group was killed, was not an accident and his search even takes him to Paris and back. Meanwhile, he and Brita, who once were lovers, start discovering each other again.

Two Maroccon organized crime families suffer the tragedies of their respective lives.

Pierre Fournel is a violinist living in a Canadian village with his sister, Gabrielle. Gabrielle is tricked into a mock marriage by Rouget, but she keeps the matter secret from her brother. Two New Yorkers, Kathleen Noyes and her fiancé Rupert Blake, arrive in the village, where Kathleen takes an interest in Pierre. Blake tries to discredit him. Pierre discovers that his sister has a child, and takes her and the child to New York. Unable to sell any of his compositions, Pierre takes a job in a café, where he is discovered by Kathleen. She invites him to play at her home. Blake directs Rouget to steal Kathleen's jewels, and Gabrielle is blamed. To protect his sister, Pierre declares that he stole the jewels, and Kathleen refuses to press charges. Eventually, Pierre learns the truth about the Rouget's shame marriage and compels Rouget to marry Gabrielle. Kathleen and Blake are about to be married when Rouget exposes Blake. Kathleen then seeks forgiveness from Pierre.

At the beginning of 2014 a comedy become an unexpected success becoming the greatest hit of all times for a Spanish film in Spanish language. Borja Cobeaga wrote it together with Diego San Jose, but the documentary focus on the first one, and academy award nominee for a short film, a director of a Spanish classic Pagafantas.
