A Japanese schoolgirl returns to her hometown from abroad, but has now contracted AIDS to a blood transfusion. So begins much prejudice, misconception and discrimination. She not only has physical pain, side-effects and manifestations from the virus she has contracted, but also receives no respite given the way she is treated. She does have one and only one friend however and it also becomes a matter of whether the friendship can last or not.

A retired professor has returned to his estate to live with his beautiful young wife, Yelena. The estate originally belonged to his first wife, now deceased; her mother and brother still live there and manage the farm. For many years the brother (Uncle Vanya) has sent the farm's proceeds to the professor, while receiving only a small salary himself. Sonya, the professor's daughter, who is about the same age as his new wife, also lives on the estate. The professor is pompous, vain, and irritable. He calls the doctor (Astrov) to treat his gout, only to send him away without seeing him. Astrov is an experienced physician who performs his job conscientiously, but has lost all idealism and spends much of his time drinking. The presence of Yelena introduces a bit of sexual tension into the household. Astrov and Uncle Vanya both fall in love with Yelena; she spurns them both. Meanwhile, Sonya is in love with Astrov, who fails even to notice her. Finally, when the professor announces he wants to sell the estate, Vanya, whose admiration for the man died with his sister, tries to kill him.

Special beings from another universe come to Earth with the power to help people relive their happiest memories. In the 90s, a pregnant woman meets one of them, while decades later, the son she gave up for adoption searches for his mother.

Asema, a Kyrgyz city girl wisiting her boyfriends family in the countryside, is mistaken for a villager and accidentally kidnapped by Sagyn, a young shepard who was too shy to ask the young girl for marriage.

A working-class drifter takes a road trip to reunite with his old friends at a cabin. While traveling, he encounters other souls populating the highways of a changing America. When he arrives, he finds his friends somewhat changed as well.
