Anne and Matthijs learn that their unborn child won't survive for long.

A mountain climber from America (Warren Douglas) is obsessed by his fear of the Matterhorn, where his father had died on an ascent. Other than begging the question of why he was pursuing mountain climbing to begin with, it does serve as a starting point for the plot. He refuses to climb it as part of a rescue party, which earns him the scorn of a guide (Gilbert Roland) who is his rival for the love of a local girl (Anna Lee). He finally agrees to make the climb and, during the ascent, the guide tries to kill him.

Carmen runs a business operation that consists of sorting out broken glassware in the backyard of her own house for a nearby glass factory. This work is done for her by a group of mentally ill men kept in fear and obedience by a cruel man who works as an overseer. Faced with this situation, a street gang decides to rob the factory.

The journey in hopes of a new job in reality turns into an accelerating whirlwind of absurd events of short encounters, newly found-and-lost-again friendships subtracting from Agoston all his possessions and everything he once believed to be his whole life. However Agoston doesn't give up his search for income and decides to pursue his dream of catching a big sea fish.
