Based on real life events, the film is set in January 1949 and focuses around a group of soldiers involved in the final stages of the Battle of Pingjin

Non professional actors, filmed in a semi documentary style, show the lives of sailors and their officers ,some of whom are transferred to a hospital ship ,during WWII in Italy .

The story takes place during the Korean War (1951-1953). In the fall of 1952, the American troops launched a large-scale attack by the border between South Korea and North Korea during the Sino-American negotiation at Banmen Dian. Zhang Zhong Fa, a company commander of the Chinese Voluntary Army, led his troops to guard Shanggangling Mount. In an extremely difficult situation, they guarded their position for 24 days. The American were forced to resume the negotiation and sign the the armistice.

Julie, a southern white girl, falls in love with a former slave of her father's in the middle of the Civil War. She must decide rather she wants to stay safe in the south with her family, or risk her life to follow her convictions.

June 1944. The attention of the world is focused on Normandy, but the change of the tide can be felt in Finland also. Rumours of preparations of a massive Soviet attack in the Karelian region are heard everywhere. In the Finnish HQ many officers know the attack is coming, but Marshal Mannerheim is not even informed of the most frightening news. The old marshal is turning 77, but the Soviet Union has an unpleasant gift for him. The army is not all prepared, but who is guilty, and to whom belongs the honor?

Maria lives with his son Darko in a Croatian village that was attacked by Serbian Chetniks one night. Them two manage to escape, and find hideout in the nearby town. Maria takes up job in the laundry, while Darko joins Croatian Defendors, much to his mother's opposition. After discovering that her son was killed, Maria sets off to the front so she could bury his body if nothing else.
