After suffering a contusion, medical officer John Watson was sent into retirement. He came to London with the intention of opening a private medical practice, but he even dreamed of becoming a writer. It is not known how the fate of the doctor would have been if he had not witnessed one incident that eyewitnesses considered to be an accident. And only one of the crowd said with confidence when the police arrived at the scene that this was a premeditated murder, and suggested that the doctor go to the station to testify. A new acquaintance introduced himself by Sherlock Holmes. This unpleasant meeting the same day turned out for Dr. Watson an unexpected adventure.

One day a former comrade of Watson, Peter Small, comes to an apartment on Baker Street. He brings with him a trunk full of jewels. Small is wounded and dies in the arms of the doctor. Watson refuses to believe that Small is a murderer and robber. Holmes is taken to help get to the truth. The case is mysterious and dangerous. He assumes that a gang of cab-men is operating in the city. The bait should be a photograph, which depicts all of them - still young officers, graduates of a military school, along with one of their teachers. The next day, the beautiful Irene Adler appears in the Holmes apartment. After her visit, the photo disappears.

Dr. Watson notes that Holmes is very annoyed that Irene managed to steal an important photo from him. At the same time, an explosion occurred at one of the London photo studios. The photographer is killed. Holmes is invited to the military department because of what happened is suspected an attempt at state security. At the crime scene, Holmes drew attention to the broken photographic plates - on the pictures is the same stranger. Holmes hopes to make Irene Adler tell him the whole truth about the mysterious man in dark glasses. But Irene is kidnapped, and Holmes is given an ultimatum: if he wants to see her alive, he must steal the fur coat of the French ambassador.

It turns out to be Mr. Calway - an unremarkable man in the street, whose only weakness is the game of cards. On the day Calway must be hanged, Holmes wonders: why Miss Elizabeth's parents were not in the courtroom? This circumstance seems suspicious to him.

When Buckley left the bank, the police suddenly appeared and killed the fraudster. Holmes makes the assumption that the case of the red-haired gentleman and the death of Mr. Buckley are only part of a cunning plan.

In the estate of Earl Brasher during the Christmas party the organizer of the holiday is killed. Holmes, along with Dr. Watson on call of the graph immediately arrive at the crime scene. Watson is extremely surprised that Holmes is juggling evidence and putting Inspector Lestred on the wrong track. The fact is that on the evening with the verses performed one very pretty singer. She left a message to Sherlock in the form of a conventional sign. Sherlock is sure that it is a desperate plea for help. Irene Adler, the woman who broke his heart, turned to Holmes. To Watson's even greater surprise, Sherlock Holmes intends to find and save Irene. Even at the cost of his own life.

Three years have passed since the death of Holmes. Dr. Watson married Mrs. Hudson, his stories about the famous detective are successfully reprinted. A small memorial museum opened in Baker Street. But life without adventure is boring. Therefore, when one day a young girl turns to the doctor with the old memory asking him to reveal the cause of her lover's death, Mrs. Hudson equips Watson for the case. This case is preparing him a lot of surprises and shocks. It turns out that the killing of the clerk is connected with the disappearance of secret documents, and we can talk about the impending assassination attempt on the Queen of England. To prevent an attacker from accomplishing this, Dr. Watson needs a reliable assistant.
