Prince Golitsyn wrote a letter to Emperor Nicholas I, presenting bribery and lawlessness of officials as an all-Russian conspiracy. The emperor instructs the head of the secret office, Count Benkendorf, to confirm or deny the facts contained in the letter of Golitsyn. Since part of the message criticizes the activities of services controlled by the graph, Benkendorf decides to get rid of the uncomfortable prince. But it is impossible to openly do this, since Golitsyn is too large a figure in the country's political life. The only way out found by the quirky Benkendorf is the duel. It is necessary to pick up a person who could come together with Golitsyn, and then mortally hurt him and get a call to a duel. And the professional killer will come to the duel instead, and the prince will have no chance to stay alive. Benkendorf begins to develop a multi-way combination, the result of which will be the elimination of an undesirable fighter for justice .
