Sasamekikoto
Sumika is too tall, very athletic, and not "cute" at all. Her family runs a martial arts dojo, and she's definitely got the skills and talent for it which is why everyone is shocked when she suddenly quits. She is in love with her best friend Ushio, who while also liking girls only likes "cute" girls. Sumika gives up martial arts in an attempt to make herself more cute but even that is not enough. Ushio has fallen for an older student. Sumika brushes it off revealing that any time Ushio sees a cute girl she falls madly in love with her despite how little she knows about her. When Ushio reveals her feelings to the girl she likes, she is harshly rejected leaving Sumika to comfort her best friend.

Kawaii hito tachi
Ushio has fallen in love again but this time with a fashion model for popular girls' trends. Sumika continues to long for Ushio while watching from the sidelines. Sumika has enough problems with being in love with her best friend only to have her situation at school get more complicated when Akemiya a boy in their class, albeit a very pretty and cute one, admits his feelings for her. However, Sumika is still in love with Ushio and she doesn't like boys anyway. While spending the evening with Ushio, Sumika runs into the fashion model that Ushio is crushing over only to discover that the fashion model is in fact Akemiya who's been modeling girls' clothing every since his younger sister sent in some pictures of him to some magazines.

Sumika and Ushio wander in on two girls kissing in a classroom after school. After observing this, Ushio becomes determined to practice so that her first kiss will be perfect once she finds the perfect girl to experience it with . Sumika prays that she will be the one Ushio picks to practice her first kiss with. She gets her hope up only to have them dashed when Ushio mentions that she is too tall for her as Ushio only goes for girls smaller than her thus fulfilling her "cute" requirement. Ushio then realizes that by practicing her first kiss, it will make her 'first kiss' no longer the first one. She puzzles over how to practice without it planning and then comes up with a solution: a mask. She summons Sumika to a classroom after school knowing that while Sumika is not her type who better to practice with than a best friend.
