The story of a remote Siberian village, whose main treasure is beautiful horses. According to a local legend many years ago beautiful horses appeared in the village by miracle.

Eleven year old Jimmy is sent to live with his grandparents after his mother's attempted suicide. They didn't even know he existed. His grandfather doesn't want anything to do with him, but through the summer Jimmy unwittingly unravels family secrets dating back to the German occupation of the island.

Josiah, the snack shop guy, encounters an estranged family member.
