Lisa James, a Sociology Professor, escapes her abusive husband, Stan, and seeks refuge with one of her students. How long will it take before Stan finds out where she has been hiding?

After school, thirteen-year old Jitka likes to wander alone through Prague. The brisk girl also likes to sneak around the backyards surrounding the block of flats where she lives. One day, she discovers a high wall and a hospital garden behind it. It is summer and every afternoon, the nurses bring a young man bound to a wheelchair after an injury to the garden. Jitka begins to encourage the young man in his attempts to walk. The incongruous couple begins to have a friendly talk every day.

When a married doctor brings home a gay medical student that he's smitten with, his wife goes along and the three try to build a non-traditional relationship. Then society's homophobia intervenes.

A divorce brings about the end of the world for Sandra.

A young French cabaret showgirl spends a few days in a provincial Spanish city recovering from an operation, altering with her brash self-confidence the narrow-minded customs of the place and awakening passion in the local physician and in a young teacher as well.

Ken, a 23-year-old, is devastated at the death of his father. He decides to commit suicide by jumping into the near-freezing river, but somehow miraculously survived. His mother thinks that the only way to help her depressed son is to send him to his uncle Takuma in Japan. Takuma is in no way like his calm father. He is unpredictable. Furthermore, his idea of moral values is very unconventional, insisting his nephew to occupy himself with drinking sake, having sex after the shock of losing his father. Somehow, all these strange methods manage to rekindle the desire in Ken to live again.
