Pehchaan

The cell phone camera has become an intimate, pervasive, memory preservation tool. I learned this the hard way after my brother Diego was murdered in 2008 and all I had left of him were just short video clips of our moments together, in very low resolution. This project is an homage to the life of Diego, and a painful reminder that someday we will all have to face death.

In summer of 2012,a woman arrived in Beijing from her hometown in order to rent her house out for a good price. She was greeted by her unemployed son and all kinds of small ads. She slept on a couch, although owns three houses in Beijing. He is beloved of his mom and in love with his girlfriend, but doesn't know where his soul is in Beijing. In the heat of the city, they negotiated with people and quarreled with each other, hardly concerned about national affairs. However, the nation does concern with them. It was a morning the woman with full of tears, the new Right Center declared that they will respond to the call of the previous President and strive to fulfill the plan of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

This film is set in Shanghai during the 90s. Mei is an ordinary fourth grade student from Puxiong primary school. One day Mei accidentally injures a classmate with a wooden stick. As the parents are called in by the school, Mei prepares to take full responsibility of what he's done. He soon realizes that taking blame in the adult world is not so black and white.
