Turgut takes part in school plays as a clown to take care of his son Umut. Umut's mother Simay has left them and ran away. In the middle of a play, he discovers that Umut got sick at the school and that he got hospitalized. Umut has been diagnosed with leukemia. Now Turgut has a single goal: To find the required amount of money to cure his son. During these events, Umut's mother Simay returns home; and everything becomes more complicated for Turgut.

Meanwhile, one of Shantel's youth, Afro-Dominican poet Reggie, struggles to find her own path and discover her own voice. Reggie feels alone and unsure of herself, exploring her talent for poetry and her desire for relationships at the youth group Shantel leads. With the help of a small community of good friends and mentors, both Shantel and Reggie learn lessons they will never forget.
