Anders Lund Madsen meets Preben Nielsen to try to understand why he no longer wants life and wants to die. We meet Preben's wife Brit and hear about the tragic accident that has left Preben paralyzed from the neck down, which means that today he is in a wheelchair and dependent on the help of others 24/7. Anders Lund Madsen tries to challenge Preben's desire to choose life. And then an impartial doctor in Belgium must be convinced that Preben's wish to die is also real.

Anders Lund Madsen has arranged for Preben, who is paralyzed from the neck down, to have the opportunity to dive in a huge aquarium full of big sharks. We meet Preben's little sister Dorte - and then Preben meets a person who has chosen life despite paralysis. And then Brit and Preben's foster son Rasmus finally get word of Preben's election.

Preben also decides to record one last song for Brit before he embarks on his final journey to Belgium, where he is scheduled to die. In order to complete the flight, this means that he has to be lifted out of his wheelchair several times. Anders Lund Madsen is with us on this entire last part of the journey.
