A small provincial town. The inhabitants are bored, apathetic and bitter... Peredonov, a modest high school teacher, dreams about a promotion and moving to the capital. Gradually his dream becomes an obsession. Varvara, his second cousin who dreams about marrying him, writes a promising letter about an invitation to Saint-Petersburg on behalf of the capital's princess. But the teacher's dreams aren't meant to come true: he becomes a victim of his own insanity and kills his friend and the hateful Varvara...

In a Swiss winter resort, Lydia Boysen, who has just divorced from her husband, meets the young ski instructor Dagfin Holberg. It doesn't take long before they both fall in love with each other. One day her ex-husband Axel shows up, not long after he had tried to set Lydia up with the much older, rich Turkish man Sabi Bey. A little later, Alex Boysen is found lying dead in the snow. Dagfin and Lydia suspect each other of killing Boysen. To protect Lydia, Dagfin takes all the blame. Not entirely unselfish, he receives full support in his actions from Sabi Bey, who also promises to help Dagfin escape. The Turkish general hopes to get closer to his goal in this way and finally win Lydia over. Lydia, in turn, is ready to sacrifice herself for Dagfin. In order to be sure of Sabi Bey's support for the fugitive Dagfin, she follows the Muslim despot, who was once responsible for a massacre of Armenians and only narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, to his castle in southern Germany. As luck would have it, Dagfin has gone into hiding right next door, on Colonel von Gain's neighboring estate. Meanwhile, Tilly, the colonel's daughter, has fallen head over heels in love with the reclusive permanent guest. Sabi Bey gradually realizes that he won't let Lydia down in the future and swallows poison out of desperation. Dying, he confesses that he killed Axel Boysen in self-defense as Boysen was blackmailing him. Lydia and Dagfin can now look into the future together.

One night noble married couple Fabiusz and Waleria find that their long-estranged friend Mucjusz has returned from his travels of distant lands. During dinner, he presents them with mysterious and exotic gifts.

An orphan in early 19th century England escapes the poorhouse only to fall among a gang of pickpockets in London.

*Spoliers* Bill Underwood (Tim Holt) falls out with his father (Gordon DeMain) and chooses the life of a cowhand rather than take charge of his father's stage line. He and his pals Smokey Ryan (Ray Whitley) and Whopper Hatch (Lee "Lasses" White), on the road to Durango, prevent a holdup of the Kellogg Stage Line, which the elder Underwood has being trying to buy. Underwood's agent, attorney Steve Farley (Archie Twitchell), has been doublecrossing him in the negotiations by misrepresenting the offer. In Durango, Bill finds that Farley has been corrupting the stage drivers working for Kellogg (Charles Phipps) and his daughter Nancy (Luana Walters.) Using the assumed name of Bill Dawson, Bill hires out to drive for the Kelloggs. Farley attempts to plant stolen mail with Bill, but Bill and his pals defeat an ambush intended as part of the plan, but Farley learns his real identity and informs Nancy that he is an Underwood spy. She fires Bill and, in order to save a mail contract, intends to drive the stage herself. Knowing that Farley's men intend to hold up the stage, Bill and his pals do it themselves, but deliver the mail to its intended destination. Mr. Underwood comes to Durango to expose Farley's treachery.
