Philanthropical druggist Daniel Abbott, occasionally robs the rich to take care of the poor, goes to court with his young ward, Jimmy Nolan. In the courtroom Daniel meets Mrs. Warren, who, despondent over her inability to care for a newborn baby, has been charged with attempted suicide. Daniel takes mother and daughter under his wing, watching with pride as the girl, Helen, and his ward, Jimmy, grow to a tender adolescence. Sylvester Doane, a tenement owner, falls in love with Helen, and Daniel makes plans to rob him. Jimmy learns with shock of the plans and goes to Doane's apartment to prevent the robbery. Jimmy takes the gems to forestall his father, but he is found with them in his possession and put in jail. Daniel kills Doane and is himself shot. Jimmy is released from jail, and he and Helen are married.

A young man questions the rules his mother imposes on him after a disturbing discovery in the home.

On a train bound for New York, where she hopes to find work, Honey McNeil captures the appreciative eye of William Ogden, a financier, who offers her a job. At the apartment of her married sister, Jane, Honey renews her acquaintance with Sara Foote, now a worldly New Yorker secretly jealous of Jane. Honey is disappointed when young architect Harvey Gibbs brings her home from an unspectacular evening, and she declines his numerous proposals. Ogden, already married, is also rejected by Honey, despite the luxury he offers her. Don Kendall, in conspiracy with Sara, tries to obtain love letters Ogden has written Honey, so as to blackmail him, and her refusal to give them up causes him to beat her brutally. Realizing that Ogden does not love her, Honey dismisses Gibbs, who doubts her. Jane leaves her husband and elopes with Don. Honey is ultimately united with Gibbs, who wins a prize for designing a church.

Japanese adaptation of Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced. The local town newspaper, "Asahi Times", printing a strange story about a murder on the personal advertisement column. "Notice of a murder. October 29th Friday 6:30pm, at KOMICHI NO YAKATA (KOMICHI Mansion). Looking forward to seeing those who are interested". People who live and work in KOMICHI NO YAKATA are thrilled to see the advertisement. They all believe that the announcement is merely an invitation for a game, and not an actual murder. Ms. Reiri, the land lady of the Mansion, is so excited for this mysterious advertisement. "Somebody is hosting a fun event. We have to make it as a special and fun party night!" Lately in town "Pretending murder game" was very popular. All the ladies and gents who regularly gather in KOMICHI NO YAKATA like to have fun game and enjoy the jokes. Therefore Ms. Reiri is expecting that many people will gather tonight after seeing this interesting advertisement, starts to get ready for the party with excitement. So the evening, as expected, many curious neighbors gathered in the KOMICHI NO YAKATA. When the clock hits 6:30 pm, the lights go out and a stranger comes in, saying "hands up!!". Then they hear gunshots. When the place is illuminated, a man lies dead on the floor. The guest of the night realize the advertisement was not a game but the man really was killed. "A murder at KOMICHI NO YAKATA" case is in charge of a detective Shokokuji (Mr. Ikki Sawamura). Together with his assistant Tatara (Mr. Yoshiyoshi Arakawa) and his team start investigating the case.

The farmer Per Jonsson doesn't think too well about the factory in the neighborhood, since he thinks that it destroys the fishing and makes the young people leave the countryside. When the workers at the factory go on strike, they ask him to sell milk to them and let them work in his forest. But Jonsson is stubborn and refuses to give them any help at all. At least until he is in an accident and also need help.
