El rosario

El rosario

Directed by Juan Ortega and set in 19th Century Victorian England, a struggling single woman of the noble class , named Juana Champion (played by actress Andrea Palma), has absolutely no marriage prospects. After finally resigning herself to becoming a Spinster or "Old Maid", she decides to go live with her very wealthy Aunt, none other than the Dutchess of Meldrum. Not long after her arrival, she quickly becomes infatuated with a charming, good-looking and talented painter named Garth, who works for her prim and proper Aunt. Although there is a mutual attraction between them from the start, Garth does not truly fall in love with Juana until he hears her sing a wonderful song called "The Rosary". Her beautiful voice and haunting lyrics make him love Juana from then on. However, things are rather complicated by the fact that Juana's younger cousin, Paulina is also in love with the handsome painter. In addition, Juana is seven years older than her beloved, so she fears that her stuffy family and the rigid society in which she lives will disapprove of such an unconventional match. Juana sees no other option and so reluctantly leaves her Aunt's comfortable estate, breaking Garth's own heart in the process. After her sudden departure, she eventually learns that Garth had lost his sight in a hunting accident. Furthermore, pretty Paulina has no interest in marrying a blind man. Without disclosing her true identity, Juana discreetly returns to care for the man she loves. Garth soon wonders who could possibly want to work so selflessly day after day, determined to somehow make him well against all odds. It is not until he hears her sing "The Rosary" again, that he finally realizes that he and Juana have been reunited and are together again at last!
