Ninth Street

Summary The inhabitants of a deteriorating section of 1968 Junction City, Kansas known as "Junk City" bemoan their existence and revel at the history of their neighborhood during its 1940's heydays when legendary jazz musicians regularly played its clubs. In 1968, the area has diminished to strip clubs and juke joints inhabited by Vietnam War draftees that pass through from nearby Fort Riley. Heads of the group include a wino who lost a leg in WWII, a taxi dispatcher, a saloon owner, and a crazed bag lady. The younger generation is represented by a young prostitute who is trying to get off the streets, but is forced to continue to work by a no-good boy friend and the need to feed her baby. Martin Sheen also appears as a white minister who prefers the people in the area over his own congregation. View more details

Life on Stage... The No More! Project

Life on Stage... The No More! Project

Life on Stage... The No More! Project is a mixed media, anthology series that incorporates film, theatre, documentaries, animation, and the arts (acting, spoken word, singing and dancing) to address seven areas that negatively impact the African American youth/young adult population today: Drugs; Sex; Peer Pressure; Violence; Suicide; Sex Trafficking; and Abuse (physical, sexual and mental). Built and highlighted by many true events and experiences of cast members and production staff, creator nA' Stubbs says the 8-part series, similarly crafted like Will Smith's Amend and Amazon Prime's Small Axe anthology series, is "transparency for the sake of helping and healing" because some of these issues remain so "taboo" that they are still withheld from conversations even in the 21st century. The project is produced by uNiqu' Performing Arts and Expected End Entertainment. Life on Stage... The No More! Project's cast lends thought on how the social issues addressed in the project, although centered on the African American experience, transcend ethnic, race, socioeconomic, and religious affiliations. Each episode is shaped by true story documentary interviews, live stage enacted theater , as well as docu-fiction plots with filmed enactments set to the rhythm of spoken word. All lead characters are portrayed by the resident actors/performers of uNiqu' Performing Arts. The stage monologues/dialogue portion, which has the cinematic look of Hamilton and the intimate narrative moments of A Chorus Line, weaves the viewer between the different scenes seamlessly and connects the filmed enactments and the stage production shots.
