Donald Petrie is an American film director and actor, born in New York, United States. He studied theatre at California State University, Northridge, and began his career as an actor before transitioning to directing in 1980 after being accepted as a Fellow at the American Film Institute. He is the son of actress, novelist, and producer Dorothea Petrie and director Daniel Petrie, and the brother of screenwriter Daniel Petrie Jr.
