Horikoshi Kenzo

Description:

Horikoshi Kenzo is a Japanese film producer. He is the representative of the film production and distribution company Eurospace and also holds the position of Honorary Professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. Since 2021, he has been a professor at the Anime and Manga Faculty of Kaishi Professional University.

Horikoshi graduated from Waseda University in 1967 with a specialization in German literature from the Faculty of Letters and later traveled to Germany where he co-founded the members-only travel agency "Ei-Nichi Kyokai" in Mainz in 1970. He returned to Japan in 1971, having left his master's program in German literature at the University of Mainz.

Using funds from selling his travel agency to Japan Airlines in 1983, he opened the Eurospace mini theater in Shibuya, Tokyo, pioneering independent film distribution through unique acquisitions.

In 1997, Horikoshi co-founded the non-profit organization "Eiga Bigakko" (Film Aesthetics School) with the Athénée Français Foundation. He opened the Cinemondo mini theater in Kanazawa in 1999. Following a request from the Tokyo University of the Arts, he played a leading role in establishing the graduate school's Department of Film in 2005, serving as a professor for eight years until his retirement in 2013. After retiring, he has served as a visiting professor at Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering and as a part-time lecturer at Nihon University's College of Film.

Currently, alongside his role as representative director of Eurospace, he operates the multi-purpose hall Euro Live, launched in 2014.
