Nagata is a Japanese director and screenwriter from Osaka, Japan.
She graduated from Kwansei Gakuin University Business School. During the university days she practiced choreography, stage design and other works. After showing interest in video production, after graduating she started working at a film production company as an assistant director. In 1988, Nagata became the assistant to a Japanese director Iwai Junji and a photographer Shinoda.
