Cha Tae Hyun is a South Korean actor, director, and singer. He started his acting career in a 1995 KBS television drama. He appeared in his first movie, "Hallelujah", in 1997, also making his debut as a singer in 2001. He is the commercial model of Mario Kart DS in South Korea. He was a cast member of the long-running variety show "2 Days and 1 Night".
In March 2019, he was reported to have engaged in gambling, which was discovered through Jung Joon Young's phone's text messages during the police's investigation of the latter for illicit sex video crimes. He subsequently issued a formal statement of apology and withdrew from all his shows.
He married his high school sweetheart, pop lyricist Choi Suk Eun, in 2006. They dated for 13 years; she was his first and only girlfriend. They have three children, Su Chan, Tae Eun, and Su Jin. In 2011, he confessed on the SBS talk show "Healing Camp" that he suffers from a panic disorder.
On April 18, 2025, it was announced that he had left Blossom Entertainment after 13 years. He and actor Zo In Sung established a new entertainment agency, Basecamp Company.
