Phyllis Lucille Gates was an American interior decorator, who gained a lot of spotlight for her three-year marriage with legendary American actor Rock Hudson. Gates met Hudson while working as the secretary of noted American Hollywood talent agent Henry Willson. She eventually married Hudson, but the marriage was short-lived and culminated into divorce amidst rumours that Hudson committed adultery. Hudson’s homosexuality was a known fact in showbiz and it became public knowledge after he died of AIDS-related complications. Some sources mention that Willson urged Hudson to marry Gates to put Hudson’s homosexuality rumours to rest. According to some Gates was a lesbian who knew about Hudson’s homosexuality from the beginning and blackmailed her husband on the issue. However, in her biography, ‘My Husband, Rock Hudson,’ Gates said that she was in love with Hudson and was unaware of his homosexuality and was not a party to his deception. Gates never remarried and said that she never stopped loving Hudson.
