(Police officer) Arthur Nebe was a German SS functionary who held key positions in the security and police apparatus of Nazi Germany. He became head of the Criminal Police in 1936, which merged into the Reich Security Main Office in 1939. Nebe led Einsatzgruppe B, a mobile death squad responsible for over 45,000 victims during the German invasion of the Soviet Union. He later returned to work with the RSHA before being executed for his role in the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler in 1944.
