Description:
(Diplomat, nobleman) Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki was a Polish nobleman, diplomat, and spy noted for his role during the Great Turkish War. He became known for his courageous actions at the 1683 Battle of Vienna, where he played a crucial part in securing assistance for the city under siege. Kulczycki is credited with establishing one of the earliest cafés in Vienna by making use of coffee beans left behind by the Ottoman Turks, though some newer accounts propose that the first coffeehouse was actually founded by the Armenian Johannes Theodat in 1685.
