Rose O'Neal Greenhow was a well-known Confederate spy who used her political connections to provide vital military intelligence to the Confederacy. Leading a Southern spy network in Washington, D.C., she significantly contributed to the Confederate success at the First Battle of Bull Run. Despite facing consequences for her espionage, she persisted in her efforts and was eventually chosen to represent the Confederacy on a diplomatic mission to Europe. Unfortunately, she met a tragic end in 1864 when she drowned while trying to evade a Union gunboat.
