(Military officer, Skydiver) Leonid Khabarov is a former Soviet military officer known for leading the first Soviet Army unit to enter Afghanistan in 1979, marking the start of the Soviet-Afghan War. He later faced legal troubles in Russia, where he was accused of plotting a coup d'état and illegally purchasing weapons. Despite nationwide attention and protests, Khabarov was sentenced to prison in 2013. He appealed to the Supreme Court of Russia but was rejected. In 2014, he was released on parole after serving time for his charges.
