(Socialite)
Madeleine Astor was a socialite and the wife of millionaire John Jacob Astor. She is remembered for being a survivor of the infamous sinking of the RMS Titanic. Madeleine had married Colonel Astor in 1911, and had taken the first part of their honeymoon on the Olympic, a sister ship of the Titanic. They later booked the Titanic for the second part of their honeymoon. Though her husband died during the tragic incident, Madeleine managed to survive. She inherited an amount of $100,000 and an income from her husband’s trust fund of $5 million. An amount of $3 million had also been set aside for their unborn son. After Colonel Astor’s death, Madeleine married twice more. Her second marriage was with her childhood friend, banker William Karl Dick, and the third one was with Enzo Fiermonte, an actor and boxer. Both these marriages ended in divorce. She died in Palm Beach, Florida, at the age of 46. Though according to official sources she died of heart disease, it is speculated that she died of overdosing on prescription drugs.
