Description:
(Explorer) Helge Marcus Ingstad, a renowned Norwegian explorer, discovered remnants of a Viking settlement in L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland, Canada in 1960, alongside his wife archaeologist Anne Stine Ingstad. This significant find provided conclusive evidence that Norsemen had reached North America before Columbus and Cabot. Ingstad also theorized that the disappearance of Greenland Norse settlements in the 14th and 15th centuries was due to emigration to North America. He passed away at the age of 101 in Oslo.
