Teddy Sheean

Teddy Sheean served as a sailor in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve in 1941 and received training before joining the corvette HMAS Armidale in 1942. Sheean participated in escort duties along the Australian coast and in New Guinea waters. During a mission to Betano, Timor, Armidale was attacked by Japanese aircraft. Sheean courageously defended his comrades by manning a cannon and shooting down one enemy bomber before sacrificing his life as the ship sank.
