Juan de la Cosa

Juan de la Cosa was a notable Castilian navigator and cartographer known for creating the earliest European world map that included the Americas. He was the owner and captain of the Santa María during Christopher Columbus' journeys to the West Indies. Additionally, he served as the chief pilot for Alonso de Ojeda's expedition to South America. After returning to Andalusia, he crafted a renowned world map and led several expeditions to America. De la Cosa also carried out special duties for the Crown and participated in significant pilot boards.
