Description:
(Privateer)
Jack Ward, known as Birdy or Yusuf Reis, was an English pirate who later became a Corsair for the Ottoman Empire in the early 17th century. Operating out of Tunis, he became infamous for his piracy and privateering in the Mediterranean Sea. Ward's daring escapades influenced the creation of the character Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, as observed by writer Giles Milton. His bold and adventurous exploits as a pirate and Corsair have had a lasting impact on maritime history.
