Hugo Eckener

Hugo Eckener managed Luftschiffbau Zeppelin and commanded the Graf Zeppelin during the inter-war years. He supervised the construction of successful airships and was a skilled airship commander, notably leading the first airship flight around the world. Eckener, an opponent of the Nazi regime, was asked to participate as a moderate candidate in German presidential elections but was rejected by the authorities. Despite his significant achievements in aviation, he was marginalized by the Nazi government.
