Description:
(Preacher) William J. Seymour was a Holiness Pentecostal preacher who initiated the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. He preached a Pentecostal message centered on speaking in tongues as a sign of receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. His leadership during the revival and publication of The Apostolic Faith newspaper elevated his status within the young Pentecostal movement. However, his attempts to expand the revival into a larger organization, the Apostolic Faith Movement, were impeded by conflicts with other ministers, resulting in a decrease in his influence.
