Charles Grandison Finney was an American Presbyterian minister who led the 19th-century Protestant religious revival called the “Second Great Awakening” in the United States of America. Regarded as the ''Father of Modern Revivalism,'' Finney is remembered for his theories supporting Christian perfectionism. All his life, he had opposed the Old School Presbyterian theology. Finney gave up his law practice to become an evangelist. The president of 'Oberlin College,' he dedicated his life to revivals and religious writings. Finney's theological views focused on common sense and humanity's ability to reform itself. He was an abolitionist and had managed to convert a lot of people. However, his unconventional thoughts were highly criticized by many.
