Description:
(Officer, Astronaut) David M. Brown was a United States Navy captain and NASA astronaut who joined the astronaut corps in 1996. Tragically, he lost his life during his first spaceflight aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) when it disintegrated during reentry. Despite not completing a space mission before the Columbia disaster, Brown was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in recognition of his dedication and service to space exploration.
