Barbara Morgan

Barbara Radding Morgan, an American teacher and former NASA astronaut, was selected as the backup to Christa McAuliffe for the 1986 STS-51-L mission on the Space Shuttle Challenger. Despite the Challenger tragedy, she persevered in her training and later served as a mission specialist on STS-118 in August 2007. Barbara made history as the first teacher to journey into space, playing a vital role in NASA's Teacher in Space program and making significant contributions to space exploration.
