Bill Ayers is a retired American professor known for his involvement in the far-left militant organization, the Weather Underground. He co-founded the group in 1969, which conducted bombings targeting public buildings to protest U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Despite being described as a domestic terrorist group by the FBI, Ayers became a distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He gained attention during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign for his connections to then-candidate Barack Obama.
