Dan Coats is an American politician and former diplomat, best known for serving as the director of national intelligence in the Donald Trump administration. Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, he was interested in politics since his early years. Following his high-school graduation from the ‘Jackson High School,’ he joined the ‘Wheaton College’ in Illinois and earned a BA degree in political science. For the next few years, he served in the U.S. military. He later joined the ‘Indiana University School of Law,’ from where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1972. He served as the district representative of senator Dan Quayle and was later elected for a seat in the ‘House of Representatives,’ representing Indiana’s 4th congressional district. He represented Indiana in the senate in 1989 and later in 2011. He has complicated stands on many burning modern-day issues in the U.S., such as gun control and the LGBT cause. In the early 2000s, he served as the U.S. ambassador to Germany. In January 2017, he was nominated by President Donald Trump as the director of national intelligence. He served in this position for about 2 years and quit on August 15, 2019.
