Alda Facio Montejo is a highly regarded feminist jurist from Costa Rica, known for her expertise in gender and human rights issues in Latin America. She played a key role in establishing the Women's Caucus for Gender Justice at the International Criminal Court and has been the Director of Women, Justice, and Gender at the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders since 1991. Facio is also a co-founder of Ventana, one of Costa Rica's pioneering feminist organizations. From 2014 to 2020, she served as a United Nations special rapporteur for the Working Group against Discrimination against Women and Girls.
