Mary of Jesus of Ágreda was a Franciscan abbess, spiritual writer, and mystic known for her extensive correspondence with King Philip IV of Spain. She was a member of the Order of the Immaculate Conception and authored 14 books focusing on revelations about the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary's bilocation between Spain and its colonies in New Spain, particularly among the Jumano Indians and in Tucson, inspired Franciscan missionaries in the New World. She has been referred to as the Lady in Blue and the Blue Nun due to the color of her order's habit.
