Pál Schmitt

Pál Schmitt is a former Hungarian Olympic fencer and politician who won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics. He also served as an ambassador in the 1990s and as Vice-President of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2010. Schmitt briefly held the position of Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary before being elected President of Hungary in 2010. He resigned in 2012 following an academic misconduct controversy related to his doctoral dissertation.
