American mixed martial artist Nick Diaz is currently associated with the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Apart from winning a WEC Welterweight Championship, Diaz has also been a Strikeforce and IFC Welterweight Champion. Diaz had a difficult childhood, while his mother struggled to raise him and his siblings almost single-handedly. His brother, Nate, too later grew up to be a UFC fighter. In 2013, Diaz announced his retirement after losing to Georges St-Pierre. After losing his come-back match against Anderson Silva in 2015, he was suspended for 5 years and fined for testing positive for cannabis. His punishment was reduced upon his appeal. However, Diaz lost his second come-back match, in 2021, against Robbie Lawler, too. Apart from UFC, Diaz has also fought in PRIDE, DREAM, EliteXC, Shooto, and other promotions. He and his brother, Nate, now run a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school and advocate for cannabis use.
