He was a highly skilled center known for his scoring ability, tallying 468 goals and 1,013 points during his time in the league. LaFontaine holds the best points-per-game average among American-born players. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, he was also recognized as one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history. LaFontaine later transitioned to an executive role with the Buffalo Sabres.
