Kang started her modeling career in Asia and Europe during her high school and college years. After completing a master's degree in finance and financial law, she worked as a commodities trader before returning to modeling in New York City. Kang gained recognition by winning the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model search and becoming a 2017 Rookie.
