Mary Decker

Mary Decker is a celebrated American retired runner known for her success in middle-distance and long-distance events. Throughout her career, she earned numerous accolades, including winning gold at the 1983 World Championships in the 1500 meters and 3000 meters. She set a total of 17 world records in events like the mile, 5000 meters, and 10,000 meters, as well as 36 U.S. national records across various distances. Decker was also the first woman to break the 4:20 barrier for the mile. In 2003, she was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
