(American Former Track and Field Athlete) John Wesley Carlos, a renowned American track and field athlete and former professional American football player, earned a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 1968 Summer Olympics. He is famously remembered for his Black Power salute alongside Tommie Smith. Carlos also tied the world record in the 100-yard dash and set a world record in the 200 meters. After his athletic career, he briefly played in the Canadian Football League before retiring due to injury. Carlos later played a key role in organizing the 1984 Summer Olympics and went on to become a track coach at Palm Springs High School. In 2003, he was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame and is also recognized as the co-author of The John Carlos Story: The Sports Moment That Changed the World.
