Doug Hepburn was a renowned Canadian strongman and weightlifter who achieved significant success in the 1950s. He won gold medals in weightlifting at the 1953 World Weightlifting Championships and the 1954 British Empire Games in the heavyweight division. Hepburn was the first man to bench press 400, 450, 500, and 550 pounds raw, earning him the title of the "world's strongest man." His remarkable feats of strength led to his induction into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, and the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
